The “World Transit Maps” app now offers a “Layer Button” function that allows you to easily switch the way railway transit maps are displayed.
Download maps also enjoy strong support
Japan’s current route maps are based on the “tile method (v2),” which does not require initial downloads and loads images of the display area as needed. The map features a layout that is not distorted and follows the actual geography, which has the advantage of making it easy to understand the distance between stations and their relative positions to nearby stations.
On top of that, we will continue to release new value such as a current location marker tracking function, offline maps, and display of sections suspended due to disasters, in order to make the transit maps app even easier to use.
On the other hand, we have also received feedback, mainly from long-time users, that “the visibility of the route maps is superior with the conventional download method.” In order to satisfy as many users as possible, we thought it was necessary to have an environment where you can switch between the two methods according to your preference, so we newly added a layer button.
Choose the map that suits you best
When you tap the layer button on the tiled map, the screen will immediately switch to the downloaded map for the displayed area. Of course, you can also seamlessly switch from the download method to the tiled one with a single layer button. When you close the app and start it again later, the transit map as the format you last selected will open.
Please note that some countries and regions only support either the download or the tile method. In these cases, switching using the layer button will be disabled.
